How do students perceive Open Education before and after completing a course dedicated to open education? This session presents findings from a mixed-methods study involving undergraduate students enrolled in an open education-focused course at a Canadian university. Using pre- and post-course surveys, student reflection assignments, and follow-up interviews, the study examines changes in student attitudes, awareness, and willingness to engage with Open Educational Practices (OEP). The session highlights key patterns in student experiences and evolving perspectives on open education. Attendees will gain practical strategies to support student engagement and consider how open practices can enhance the student learning experience.

  • Identify key factors that shape student engagement with Open Educational Practices (OEP).
  • Recognize how surveys, reflection assignments, and interviews can be used to examine changes in student attitudes and experiences.
  • Apply practical strategies to support student engagement in open educational practices and open sharing.
  • Reflect on how student perspectives can inform open course design and teaching practice.
