OpenStax is the world’s largest non-profit publisher of open education resources (OER) and an initiative of Rice University. With a commitment to making an amazing education accessible to all, OpenStax provides free, high-quality, peer-reviewed learning materials and interactive learning technologies for high school and college courses. OpenStax is also the lead organization of the nation’s largest infrastructure for education research, SafeInsights.
First launched as Connexions by Rice University C. Sydney Burrus Professor Richard G. Baraniuk in 1999 as an OER repository for instructors, we transitioned to OpenStax in 2012 by publishing our first openly licensed college textbook. Our library has since scaled to include 80+ titles with aligned student and educator resources and Assignable, an interactive teaching and learning platform. Over the past 26 years, our materials have been used by 36.1 million students across 153 countries, saving students $2.9 billion in related education costs.
